About the Director
Katie Ryan
Katie Ryan began her documentary filmaking journey in 2018 with The Last Coyote:The Don Edwards Story. After watching legendary cowboy singer Don Edwards perform at Cowboy Poetry gatherings, she recognized that his extrordinary life and music deserved to be documented.
Following Don across the country deepened her appreciation for Western music and its ability to preserve the stories, history, and traditions of the American West.
That experience inspired her second documentary, The Ghosts of California. Through the music of acclaimed Western singer-songwriter Dave Stamey and other talented artists, Katie discovered fascinating stories of early California, bringing to light people, places, and events often overlooked in traditional history books.
In addition to her documentaries, Katie has written and produced two music videos and is currently working on her third. She is also the author of two books, Horse Wisdom Alchemy and The Secret of the Blood Moon. Drawing on her experience as a psychotherapist, Katie incorporates equine-assisted therapy into her work with veterans and first responders.
